Easy Miles – Do Venice Driving Conditions Affect Service Intervals?Posted May 22, 2016 2:49 PMHave you ever noticed that your vehicle has a schedule in your owner's manual for what is called “severe service” maintenance? Let's define what severe driving conditions aren't: The easiest driving a vehicle experiences is traveling on the interstate for 20 miles (32 kilometers) or more at a constant rate of 65 miles per hour (105 kilometers per hour) in 75°F (24°C) weather with only passengers on board. Change any one of those parameters and you are adding stress to your engine. Change them significantly and you are driving under severe conditions. Car Doc On The Island

Car Doc On The Island Should Venice Soccer Moms Follow the Severe Service Schedule?Posted May 8, 2016 8:13 PMSo you take your vehicle in for maintenance and the pro at Car Doc On The Island tells you that you ought to change your oil more often. What? You followed the maintenance schedule – but you take a second look at that “severe service” schedule and see some of the following:
One way to decide how often to maintain your vehicle is to picture a line. On one end, imagine ideal driving conditions: year-round moderate FL temperatures, only freeway driving, all trips are longer than 4 miles/6.5 km and travel is always at a constant speed of 60 mph/97 kph. At the other end of the line, put the severe driving conditions. Now, stop and think about how you drive, where you live, where you go in FL and what you plan to do with your vehicle in the near future. Consider honestly where your driving fits on the line. First time customer. I was referred to Doc Car by a customer impressed with their service. Several months ago, I bought a 2004 Jaguar S-type. Two weeks ago, in succession, I was alerted to low coolant, a check engine light, and loss of AC. Car documentation showed the oil hadn’t been changed in a year and aside from leaking, the wrong coolant/antifreeze was being used. I agreed to Doc Car offer to do a 21-point car inspection as part of an oil change, and a coolant flush. The initial inspection identified worn out tires, 20-year-old sparks plugs and numerous small leaks from worn out hoses and hose clamps. The AC problem was due to a faulty climate control unit and water pump. All brought to my attention when they took me into the shop and showed me firsthand the condition of the car and all the worn parts. Finding OEM/replacement parts for a 20-year-old car is monumental at best. Not only did they (specifically Stacy, parts guru extraordinaire) obtained all the parts and had my car running in a reasonable course of time. Although the entire staff at Car Doc are exceptional and treat you like family there are 4 that I need to single out : Adam - the dedicated mechanic who spent hours repairing the Jag. Stacy – parts service guru tracking and retrieving the water pump from Japan! Desiree – the tire expert and Michael who drove me back and forth to the shop. In my 60 years of owning cars, I have never experienced the kind of service Car Doc has provided me. And to top it off they warrant their work (except tires) for 3 years. I will highly recommend them to anyone without hesitation. Jose Ortiz, USN/DoD retired, Venice Fl~ jose ortiz, 06/11/2026

This place is AWESOME. I had to have my car towed by AAA and they would only bring it to an authorized repair shop... Car Doc on the island. I'm so glad they did. I thought I had an expensive repair pending. They found that the real problem was a malfunctioning component and replaced it, costing a fraction of what I had budgeted. That's what I call honest and reliable.~ Dana Beecher, 06/09/2026
